NC Department of Commerce: Invest in Children, Working Families to Invest in NC’s Workforce

The North Carolina Department of Commerce’s (NCDoC) recently released Economic Development Strategic Plan calls for investment in children and working families as a way to build a more prosperous and resilient economy. The plan, First in Talent, is required by law to be prepared every five years. The new plan recognizes that investing in North Carolina’s workforce is the key to a stronger economy for all North Carolinians.

The NCDoC plan recommends the continued expansion of NC Pre-K and increasing child care subsidies for working parents. As part of the Governor’s continued effort to engage employers about the value of family-friendly workplaces, the plan recommends family-friendly workplace policies as important supports for working parents. Family Forward NC also is recognized in the plan as a resource for employers!

More than 250 individuals provided key ideas and feedback as the plan was developed by participating in regional sessions across NC’s Prosperity Zones.

Let’s show the NC Department of Commerce that we notice their work to support children and working families and that we will be advocating for implementation of these recommendations.
